Golden Globe Award-nominated actor Oscar Isaac will star in a new production of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, directed by Tony winner Sam Gold (Fun Home) at Theatre for a New Audience June 4-July 30, 2017, at the Polonsky Shakespeare Center in Brooklyn.

Opening night is set for June 22.

Isaac was Golden Globe nominated for his work in the Coen Brothers' film Inside Llewyn Davis. He most recently starred as Poe Dameron in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and earned acclaim for his performance in A Most Violent Year. Isaac also appeared in the 2007 Shakespeare in the Park mounting of Romeo and Juliet. He previously worked with director Gold in Zoe Kazan’s We Live Here for Manhattan Theatre Club in 2011.

Hamlet’s famous remark that ‘the purpose of playing’ is ‘to hold as ‘twere the mirror up to nature' describes Oscar Isaac’s and Sam Gold’s work,” said TFANA founding artistic director Jeffrey Horowitz in a statement. “Oscar is celebrated for the honesty, authenticity, and intensity of his performances, and Hamlet marks his long-desired return to theatre after an impressive series of starring film and television roles. Sam is renowned for the transparent subtlety and nuance of the theatrical worlds he creates. Together Oscar Isaac and Sam Gold will explore the 'undiscovered country' of Hamlet's world which begins, of course, with the first words of the play, ‘Who’s there?’”

Tickets to Hamlet are currently only available for purchase through subscription packages. Visit tfana.org/season.
