Danya Taymor, the 2024 Tony Award-winning director of The Outsiders, will follow up her Broadway triumph with a new play at Off-Broadway's MCC Theater. Next summer, Taymor will direct the American premiere of Trophy Boys, by Emmanuelle Mattana. The play will begin previews June 5, 2025, with an opening night set for June 24. The show will run until July 13.
The play, which has had multiple runs in Australia, follows members of a debate team at an all-boys prep school, who are given the prompt: "Feminism has failed women." The satire, which has been described as "Saltburn meets Promising Young Woman," previously had a cast of female and non-binary actors play the boys. It seems the American production will follow that conceit as Mattana is part of the cast; Trophy Boys is her debut play.
Trophy Boys will also tour Australia in 2025.
Additional casting, the creative team, and ticket on-sale date for Trophy Boys will be announced at a later time.
Trophy Boys is produced in association with Kevin Connor & Telegraph Productions Collective (Yes aka Amy Marie Haven, Leon Jones, Tori Lynn, Rachel Menendez, Siani Woods).
MCC's 2024–25 season also contains the sold-out hit Shit. Meet. Fan starring Neil Patrick Harris and running through December 15. More information can be found at MCCTheater.org.
