Michael R. Jackson's A Strange Loop will begin previews on Broadway April 6 with an opening night scheduled for April 26 at the Lyceum Theatre.
The cast of Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company's pre-Broadway run of the work will reprise their performances on Broadway, led by newcomer Jaquel Spivey as Usher and also featuring Antwayn Hopper, L Morgan Lee, John-Michael Lyles, James Jackson, Jr., John-Andrew Morrison, and Jason Veasey.
The 2020 Pulitzer Prize for Drama winner features a book, music, and lyrics by Jackson, centering on a young, Black, gay theatre writer grappling with his toxic inner thoughts while trying to write a musical about a young, Black, gay theatre writer grappling with his toxic inner thoughts while trying to write a musical about... and on and on.
The work had its world premiere at Off-Broadway's Playwrights Horizons in 2019, produced in collaboration with Page 73 Productions, followed by a pre-Broadway staging at Washington D.C.'s Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company that finished its run earlier this month. Hopper, Lee, Lyles, Jackson, Morrison, and Veasey have all been with the production since its Off-Broadway premiere.
Stephen Brackett (Be More Chill) again directs the production, with choreography by Raja Feather Kelly, scenic design by Arnulfo Maldonado, costumes by Montana Levi Blanco, lighting design by Jen Schriever, sound design by Drew Levy, music direction by Rona Siddiqui, orchestrations by Charlie Rosen, and casting by Destine Lilly with The Telsey Office.
