Are you ready for the artistic ride of a lifetime? The 2024 Edinburgh Fringe is on the horizon, and the initial round of programming—including 276 shows at 31 venues—has been announced. Running July 31 to August 26, the Edinburgh Fringe is the world's largest arts festival, with thousands of shows throughout the city in the waning weeks of summer.

Like the Fringe itself, the early additions to the Fringe program encompass a wide variety of genres, disciplines, and moods. Featuring cabaret and variety, children’s shows, comedy, dance, physical theatre and circus, music, musicals and opera, spoken word, and theatre, there is something for everyone!

Said Shona McCarthy, Chief Executive of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society, “It is always special to see the first batch of shows that will be performing at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Those working across the Fringe have been preparing for this moment for months—laying the groundwork for artists to come to this year’s festival and the creative explosion that is August in Edinburgh. Being able to browse the first set of shows always adds an extra level of excitement. It’s a reminder that the 2024 Fringe is just around the corner, and it feels a lot more real for the whole Fringe community. I encourage audiences to support those performing at the Fringe this August by browsing shows and booking tickets as early as you can."

While some of the larger venue operators like Assembly and Gilded Balloon made their own early announcements, other venues, such as theSpaceUK and Greenside, saved their big reveals for the February 22 release date.

The Frankenstein Pub, the world famous gothic bar in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town, particularly came out swinging in this first round, announcing the return of their beloved tribute acts (including favored mid-century crooners Johnny Cash, Neil Diamond, Elvis Presley and Roy Orbison), as well as a fleet of new shows, including the child friendly Crazy Puppet Magic Show for all of the baby goths on parade.

Make sure to flip through the program and mark which shows you most want to see as you begin to plan your once-in-a-lifetime sojourn to the so-called modern Bohemia. Be sure to follow along with Playbill as we lead up to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and if you’re interested in joining us on our globe trotting efforts, check out the Playbill FringeShip, our floating hotel for the 2024 Fringe, which will be docked in Edinburgh and will provide easy transportation to the Fringe (as well as exclusive on-ship entertainment).
