The long-running, Tony-nominated musical Rock of Ages will return to Off-Broadway’s New World Stages, the home to its original 2008 Off-Broadway premiere.
The show will reflect the staging and production designs from the Broadway original, which ran from April 2009–January 2015, playing 2,350 performances and launching a successful national tour and subsequent film adaptation.
The 10th anniversary production will begin June 19 and run through September 29.
Casting has not been announced.
Rock of Ages, utilizing the music of such groups as Journey, Starship, Twisted Sister, Foreigner, and Pat Benatar, had its world premiere in January 2006 at The Vanguard Hollywood nightclub in Los Angeles, where it played a six-week engagement before opening a limited run at The Flamingo in Las Vegas in May 2006. The musical made its New York debut in October 2008,
With a book by Chris D'Arienzo, Rock of Ages features direction by Kristin Hanggi and choreography by Kelly Devine.
The creative team also includes scenic designer Beowulf Boritt, costume designer Gregory Gale, lighting designer Jason Lyons, sound designer Peter Hylenski, and projection designer Zachary Borovay, with music supervision, arrangements and orchestrations by Ethan Popp. Henry Aronson serves as music director.
The revival is produced by Michael Cohl/S2BN Entertainment in association with Barry Habib, Scott Prisand/Seth Fass, Tony Smith, and Randi Zuckerberg/Mara Burros-Sandler.
