Featuring a book by Ira Wallach, music by David Baker and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, the limited engagement plays five performances through Feb. 23 at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter’s (entrance on East 54th Street, east of Lexington Avenue).

The cast features Anthony Apicella, Reathel Bean, Anthony Blaha, Allison Carr, Emily Daly, Laura Darrell, Matt Dengler, Nick Gaswirth, David Green, Rose Hemingway, Nancy Johnston, Paul Murphy and Tony Roberts.

The creative team includes director James Glossman and music director Joseph Baker with casting by Geoff Josselson.

Smiling, The Boy Fell Dead, according to the York, is a "musical comedy from Off-Broadway’s 1961 season that tells a classic success story—with great humor, the hero overcomes extraordinary obstacles to gain a girl, fortune, and family honor). Set in the Midwest at the turn of the last century, it spoofs Horatio Alger rags-to-riches tales."

“Another delightful and charming show in our Sheldon Harnick series. Smiling is over 50 years old, and almost unknown — but we hope to change that. With this cast, it should become the biggest hit in town!” said James Morgan, York's producing artistic director, in a previous statement.
