The Bedwetter, a musical adaptation of Sarah Silverman's memoir, will head to Washington, D.C. via Arena Stage. The production will play the company's Kreeger Theater January 31-March 16, 2025, opening February 13.
The musical, which made its world premiere Off-Broadway at Atlantic Theater Company in 2022, features a book by Silverman and Joshua Harmon, music by Adam Schlesinger, and lyrics by Schlesinger and Silverman. The story follows Sarah, a funny 10-year-old with a secret that's not so secret if you read the title. David Yazbek is a creative consultant.
Anne Kauffman will be back to stage the D.C. run after directing the world premiere. It does not appear the new production will be a straight remount of the Off-Broadway staging, however. The Arena bow will be choreographed by Danny Mefford, who is new to the project. Further creative team members are to be announced, along with casting.
Arena is producing the musical by special arrangement with Tom Kirdahy and Barry and Fran Weissler.
The theatre's upcoming 2024–2025 season, the inaugural programming of new Artistic Director Hana S. Sharif, also includes Jaja's African Hair Braiding, John Leguizamo's The Other Americans, Data, Death on the Nile, The Age of Innocence, Fake It Until You Make It, A Wrinkle in Time, and a currently untitled new work from Tarell Alvin McCraney. Subscriptions are available at ArenaStage.org.
