Chicago's Porchlight Music Theatre will present a concert version of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Pulitzer Prize-winning Sunday in the Park With George May 11-12, 2024, at the Studebaker Theater.
Tony nominee Sean Allan Krill (Jagged Little Pill, Parade) will star in the title role with Kathy Voytko (The Music Man, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder) as Dot/Marie. Additional casting will be announced.
Artistic Director Michael Weber will direct with music direction by David Fiorello.
“It’s an incredible feeling to be returning to Chicago with Porchlight,” said Krill in a statement. “I am looking forward to being back, where I began my career, performing Sondheim’s incredible work at the beautiful Studebaker Theater.”
"I often say Chicago is my second home, and it's so wonderful to be back home with Porchlight for this performance," added Voytko. "Sondheim's Sunday with its unforgettable, beautiful, and haunting music is one of my favorites to perform. I can't wait to share it with Chicago this spring."
Inspired by Georges Seurat's painting “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte,” Sunday in the Park With George opened on Broadway, starring Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters, in 1984, subsequently receiving Tony Awards for Best Scenic Design and Best Lighting Design. The Pulitzer Prize for Drama followed in 1985.
