But I'm a Cheerleader: The Musical is back at London's Turbine Theatre for a run through November 27. Get a first look at the encore production below.
Based on the cult favorite film of the same name, But I'm a Cheerleader follows Megan, an all-American high school cheerleader with a perfect life—until her friends and family reveal they suspect her of being a lesbian and send her to True Directions rehabilitation camp to set her straight. Starring are Jessica Aubrey (Bedknobs and Broomsticks) as all-American Megan and Megan Hill (Maria Friedman and Friends - Legacy) as rebellious Graham.
Rounding out the cast are Louis Amir Hook (Here Comes Santa Claus) as Jalal, Kenneth Avery-Clark (Violet) as Dad/Larry, Inez Budd (Heathers) as Sinead, Georgina Hagen (Heathers) as Mary Brown, Freddie Love (Crash Course) as Mom/Lloyd, Michael Mather (Jet Set Go) as Jared/Rock, Patrick Munday (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice) as Dolph, Julian Quijano (The 12 Tenors) as André, Noel Sullivan (How To Survive an Apocalypse) as Mike, and Ash Weir (Dr Who: Time Fracture) as Kimberly/Hilary. Josie Kemp (Les Misérables) and Ciaran Spencer, in his professional stage debut, are the Super Cheerleaders. Hook and Love also cover the roles of Mike and Mary Brown, respectively.
With a book and lyrics penned by Bill Augustin, the work features music by Andrew Abrams, and direction by Tania Azevedo. Jamie Babbit conceived and directed the original film, which featured a screenplay by Brian Wayne Peterson.
The musical first ran at The Turbine Theatre February 18–May 8. It was originally presented as part of MTFestUK at The Other Palace in 2019. But I'm a Cheerleader is presented by Taylor-Mills and Bill Kenwright in association with Adam Bialow, and by special arrangement with Lionsgate.
