Theatre Aspen has announced full casting and creative teams for its 39th season, including its mainstage productions of the Tony Award-winning musicals Gypsy (June 27-July 23) and Jersey Boys (August 1-23) at the Hurst Theatre in Rio Grande Park.
Cassondra James (Once On This Island) will lead the Gypsy cast as the fabled Rose, joined by Harry Bouvy (Wicked national tour) as Herbie and Shea Gomez (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat national/international tour) as Louise.
The cast will also include Mike Backes (Jersey Boys Las Vegas), Kayla Goins (Annie Live!), Keith Lee Grant (Marie Christine), Marissa Medina (Chicago Med), Michael Rios (Newsies national tour), Abby C. Smith (SpongeBob SquarePants), Laura Stracko (Diana), and Jayke Workman (Chicago).
Hannah Ryan (Hamilton) will direct the production with music direction by Andy Einhorn (Hello, Dolly!), choreography by Hollie Wright (Hot Feet, The Color Purple), scenic design by Drama Desk nominee Brittany Vasta, lighting design by Christina Watanabe, sound design by Andrea Allmond, costume design by Dee Graham, and wig and make-up design by Brittany Hartman.

Jersey Boys will be led by Trevor James (Prodigal Son) as Frankie Valli, Nick Bernardi (Rock of Ages Hollywood) as Tommy DeVito, Jason Michael Evans (Anastasia national tour) as Nick Massi, and Alex Ross (The Book of Mormon) as Bob Guadio.
They will be joined by Nicolas Fernandez (Jersey Boys national tour), Shea Gomez (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat national/international tour), Ana Marcu (90210! The Musical), and Alex Nicholson (We The People national tour).
Previously announced Tony nominee Hunter Foster (Little Shop of Horrors) will direct Jersey Boys as part of his fifth summer at Theatre Aspen. The creative team will also feature choreography by Ray Mercer (The Lion King), music direction by Eric Alsford, scenic design by Seth Howard, lighting design by Drama Desk nominee Christina Watanabe, sound design by Jeff Sherwood, costume design by Lauren Roark, and wig and make-up design by Siobian Jones.
In addition to its mainstage productions, Theatre Aspen has announced creative teams for its student productions. Vanessa Strahan will direct Twelfth Night with assistant direction and stage management by Jess Mount; performances run July 7-9. Abbie O'Donnell will direct James and the Giant Peach Jr., running July 21–23, with music direction by Christina Wenning. Wenning and Mount will also serve on the creative team for Bright Star, directed by Robbie Simpson, August 4–6.
