More casting has been revealed for the upcoming concert staging of Michael John LaChiusa's Queen of the Mist, set to perform February 20–23 at PEAK Performances at New Jersey's Montclair State University. As previously announced, Mary Testa will reprise her performance from the musical's 2011 world premiere, with Kirsten Sanderson directing.
Queen of the Mist features words and music by LaChiusa (The Gardens of Anuncia, The Wild Party) and orchestrations by Michael Starobin. The work was commissioned by Off-Broadway's Transport Group, which gave it its world premiere.
Testa will once again star as Annie Edson Taylor, a real-life figure who was the first woman to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel and survive. The performances are being presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals.
PEAK's production will feature lighting design by Keith A. Traux, sound design by Ken Travis, costume design by Lara de Bruijn, and projection design by Sanderson.
Only Make Believe and Situation Group teamed up for a hands-on workshop, crafting costumes with children in hospitals, care facilities, and special education programs.
The unreleased song is part of an episode of Common Denominator, a documentary series in which the late, beloved Broadway actor shared his mental health journey.
