Off-Broadway jukebox musical Sistas the Musical begins previews April 2 at the Actors Temple Theatre, with opening night set for April 9.
Written by Fulbright Scholar and Columbia University professor Dr. Dorothy Marcic, the musical tells the story of a multi-generational African American family and features 40 hit songs from America's music history, dating back to the 1930s. Featured songs include, "I Have Nothing" by Whitney Houston, "Respect" by Aretha Franklin, and "Single Ladies" by Beyoncé.
Original cast member Tracey Conyer Lee is newly filling the role of director and choreographer, leading a cast that includes Debra Thais Evans as Simone, Romelda Teron Benjamin as Roberta, Dawn Cantwell as Heather, Maria Lawson as Gloria, and Mantra Walker as Tamika.
The creative team includes Josh lacovelli as set and lighting designer, Natalie Jones as stage manager, Matthew Palmer as assistant stage manager, Bernard Tansey as general manager, and Jamibeth Margolis as casting director. The musical is produced by Hinton Battle and Jay Harris; and executively produced by William Franzblau.
