Hocus Pocus film producer David Kirschner has confirmed a stage adaptation for the cult favorite Halloween 1993 movie is in development. Kirschner spilled the beans in an episode of Broadway Podcast Network's The Art of Kindness podcast, telling podcast host Robert Peterpaul that the project has been in the works since before the COVID pandemic. No timeline, casting, or creative team for the project is shared.

The original film, directed by Kenny Ortega, starred Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as a trio of Salem witch trials-era sister witches brought back to life on Halloween for one last chance at eternal life. All three reunited for a sequel film, set to stream on Disney+ beginning September 30. Read reviews for the upcoming release here.

The original film has long been a favorite among theatre fans. Though not explicitly a movie musical, Midler, Parker, and Najimy all have enjoyed careers on the stage, and the trio does perform a witchy cover of "I Put a Spell on You," arranged by Hairspray and Some Like It Hot composer Marc Shaiman. The upcoming sequel will also reportedly feature the trio performing some new musical numbers.
