Tunney, whose screen credits also include "Prison Break" and "The Mentalist," joins previously announced Zachary Quinto in the New York premiere. The cast, helmed by Obie winner Anne Kauffman, also includes Julia Garner, Jon DeVries and Brian Hutchison.
Smokefall will play the Lucille Lortel Theatre beginning Feb. 4, 2016, with an official opening night set for Feb. 22. It is scheduled to continue through March 13.
Directed by Kauffman, the play premiered at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, where due to critical acclaim, it was remounted for a return engagement in 2014.
Here's how MCC bills the work: "In Smokefall, magical realism collides with manic vaudeville in a family drama unlike any you've ever seen. The Twins swap philosophy while awaiting their birth, Beauty eats dirt and doesn't speak, Father is about to drive away and never return, and a man named Footnote acts as our guide. Whipping from astonishing tenderness to profound humor and back again, this wholly original play uncovers the extraordinary family connections we all stretch and warp across the years but can never quite break."
The production will have scenic design by Mimi Lien, lighting by David Weiner, costumes by Asta Hostetter and sound by Lindsay Jones. Casting is by William Cantler, Telsey+Company. Tickets will go on sale Jan. 5, 2016, and can be purchased by visiting MCCTheater.org. The Lucille Lortel Theatre is located at 121 Christopher St., Manhattan.
