The play, which is set in a bustling Chicago press room, is scheduled to begin rehearsals in August prior to a first performance on or about September 20. Opening is scheduled for on or about October 20 with performances scheduled through the beginning of February 2017.
Scott Rudin Productions is producing. Casting is by Caparelliotis Casting.
No official announcement about the revival has been made.
"In The Front Page," according to earlier press notes, ”the court press room is full of poker-playing reporters, all waiting to cover the execution of radical leftist Earl Williams. Top reporter Hildy Johnson is engaged and planning to leave the life of chasing headlines and move to New York. When Williams escapes from the inept Sheriff, Hildy's scheming editor—Walter Burns—tempts Johnson to stay and write the story.“
A June 2011 reading of Front Page was helmed by Daniel Sullivan and featured Nathan Lane as editor Walter Burns; Billy Crudup as reporter Hildy Johnson; John Larroquette as the mayor; and Dan Lauria as the sheriff.
The 1928 play was last seen on Broadway in 1986 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater. Directed by Jerry Zaks, the cast featured John Lithgow and Paul Stolarsky.
