The Kite Runner, a play with music based on Khaled Hosseini’s best-selling novel, will embark on a North American tour in spring 2024.

The story follows Amir from a young boy living in Kabul, Afghanistan, who finds ways of escaping the terrible events unfolding around him through to adulthood as he searches for atonement in an exploration of father-son relationships and friendships.

The tour will begin in Tempe, Arizona next year before visiting an additional 20 cities, with further tour dates to be announced. Additionally, The Kite Runner is now available for licensing through Dramatic Publishing.

The Kite Runner premiered at the San Jose Repertory Theater in 2009, prior to several UK productions, including two 2017 West End engagements. The play then came to New York for a strictly limited run in the summer of 2022.

Giles Croft directs, having previously directed the production in the U.K., and is joined on the creative team by scenic and costume designer Barney George, lighting designer Charles Balfour, sound designer Drew Baumohl, projection designer William Simpson, composer and musical supervisor Jonathan Girling, movement director Kitty Winter, casting director Laura Stanczyk, cultural advisor and script consultant Humaira Ghilzai, and associate director Damian Sandys.

Salar Nader, the musician who accompanied the Broadway production, will reprise his role as tabla player for the tour. Additional casting is forthcoming.

The work is produced by Victoria Lang, Ryan Bogner, and Tracey McFarland of Broadway & Beyond Theatricals; and Jayne Baron Sherman, in association with UK Productions Ltd. and Flying Entertainment Ltd/Kilimanjaro Group Ltd. Daryl Roth serves as executive producer.
