The Sol Project, the New York-based collective of artists whose mission is to nurture and produce the work of Latinx playwrights, has partnered with Pregones/Puerto Rican Traveling Theater to present the first Solfest: A Latinx Theater Festival. The inaugural summer festival will feature new work by three Latina playwrights: Paola Lázaro, Guadalís Del Carmen, and Karen Zacarías.
Solfest will run June 25–27 at PRTT, located at 304 West 47th Street, New York.
Writers will receive up to 15 hours of rehearsal, culminating in a public sharing of their work each evening. Each playwright will choose an hour of material to share at the end of her process.
Actor and playwright Lázaro, who is currently starring in the Off-Broadway revival of Our Lady of 121st Street, and whose plays include Tell Hector I Miss Him, will present on June 25; Del Carmen, whose plays include Blowout and Tolstoy’s Daughters (now renamed Daughters of the Rebellion), will present on June 26; and the work of Zacarías, whose plays include Destiny of Desire, Native Gardens, The Book Club Play, and Legacy of Light, will be seen on June 2.
Each night will include a celebration and toast to each writer. The festival will also include a special musical performance by MICHA (Michelle J. Rodriguez), who will close out the festival on its final night.

In May, The Sol Project added another Off-Broadway institution to its now-national, expanding network: New York Theatre Workshop. NYTW joins a roster of Off-Broadway theatres that have already signed on with The Sol Project: Playwrights Realm, MCC Theater, Atlantic Theater Company, Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, New Georges, Women’s Project Theater, LAByrinth Theater Company, The Public Theater, and Playwrights Horizons.
Every partner commits to co-produce a play with the Sol Project, to commission a new piece from a Latinx playwright for future production, and to meet with as many artists of color, in all fields—administrative, crew, and design—during the collaboration.
