The musical adaptation of The Outsiders, based on S.E. Hinton's novel and Francis Ford Coppola's film, began Broadway previews March 16 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre. Opening night is set for April 11. Hear the song "Stay Gold" from the show in the video above, featuring Sky Lakota-Lynch (Dear Evan Hansen). The song takes its title from one of the most well-known lines from the novel.

The Outsiders features a book by Adam Rapp with Justin Levine and music and lyrics by Jamestown Revival (Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance) and Levine.

The show is set in 1967 Tulsa, Oklahoma, as Ponyboy Curtis, Johnny Cade, and their chosen family of "outsiders" are in a fight for survival and a quest for purpose in a world that may never accept them. Read reviews for the La Jolla run here.

The cast includes Brody Grant as Ponyboy, Brent Comer as Darrel, Jason Schmidt as Sodapop, Lakota-Lynch as Johnny, Joshua Boone (Skeleton Crew) as Dallas Winston, Emma Pittman (Chicago) as Cherry Valance, Daryl Tofa (Back to the Future) as Two-Bit Mathews, and Kevin William Paul as Bob Sheldon.

Paul, Grant, Comer, Schmidt, and Lakota-Lynch are all reprising their performances from the musical's La Jolla Playhouse world premiere earlier this year. Tofa, who performed in the musical's ensemble during the world premiere run, is new to his role.

Led by director Danya Taymor, the production will feature music supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations by Levine; choreography by Rick Kuperman and Jeff Kuperman; scenography by AMP featuring Tatiana Kahvegian; costume design by Sarafina Bush; lighting design by Brian MacDevitt; sound design by Cody Spencer; projection design by Hana Kim; and music direction by Matt Hinkley. Casting is by Tara Rubin Casting's Xavier Rubiano.
