Video Watch Broadway Stand Up for Ukraine With Les Miz's 'Do You Hear the People Sing?'

The Times Square event, held April 3, featured a special verse translated into Ukrainian.

The Broadway community gathered on the red steps of the Times Square TKTS booth April 3 to stand with Ukraine with a special performance of Les Misérables' "Do You Hear the People Sing?," which gained a special new verse translated into Ukrainian especially for the event. Artists who participated in the performance include Irene Bondarenko, Yaroslav Bondarenko, Felicia Boswell, Josh Breckenridge, Carolee Carmello, Kennedy Caughell, Imani Denson-Pittman, Boris Derow, Michael DeSouza, Jason Gotay, Emily Xu Hall, Ann Harada, James Harkness, Michael Hartung, Amy Jo Jackson, Anya Kosachevich, Michael Kushner, Howard McGillin, Mauricio Martínez, Lauren Molina, Shoba Narayan, Darcia Parada, Vanessa Ray, Nick Rodruiguez, Lauren Patten, Marina Petrova, Justin Sargent, Drew Tandal, and Kei Tsuruharatani, along with Broadway Inspirational Voices members Patti Butler, Casey Erin Clark, Angela DeCicco, Christopher Dilley, Kimberly JaJuan, Monroe Kent III, Allen Rene Louis, Jen Malenke, Teri O’Neill, Martín Solá, Anita Welch, and Christopher Zelno.

The Times Square Alliance set a backdrop for the event with the Ukrainian flag taking over a number of Times Square digital billboards, including Luxottica, Silvercast, JC Decaux, Sherwood Equities, American Eagle, T-Mobile, and Branded Cities.

The event was produced by Shakina Nayfack, Erica Rotstein, Annette Jolles, and Lauren Modiano, and was directed by Nayfack and Jolles and music-directed by Joel Fram. The performance was made possible through a partnership between Times Square Arts, The Times Square Alliance, and Broadway Cares, with support from Broadway Advocacy Coalition, The Broadway League, and Invest in Access. The performance follows efforts from Broadway Cares that have seen $300,000 in grants distributed to humanitarian groups currently working in Ukraine.
