LAUGHS IN SPANISH
SYNOPSIS: Art Basel is about to begin in Miami, and Mariana, the director of a swanky modern art
gallery, has a serious problem on her hands. Her showroom is an active crime scene. And when
Mariana’s larger-than-life movie-star mother shows up, stealing the spotlight yet again, things get even
more complicado. Part caper comedy, part telenovela, a fast-paced, joyous story of art and success,
mothers and daughters.
ON CODE-SWITCHING: All characters except JENNY, are bilingual in Spanish and English and code
switch throughout the play affecting their dialect, style, and vocabulary based on who they are
speaking to.
