DESCRIPTION

Drama Desk Award-winning TADA! Youth Theater actively seeks Music/Vocal Director for its Spring Production, Game Changers.


Responsibilities will include:
- Leading vocal warm-ups
- Teaching young actors vocal scores and harmonies, many of which do not read music. As well as working with cast members individually on vocal techniques and improving their singing
- Accompanying rehearsals and transposing music to meet the performers' abilities when necessary
- Creatively driving the musical aspects of the show
- Recruiting, scheduling, and rehearsing a band for performances that includes a percussionist and guitarist
- Playing piano and conducting for performances, special events, and our professional photoshoot (Date TBD)
- Giving notes to young actors throughout rehearsals and the run of performances
- Private vocal work/voice lessons with cast members


Compensation: This is a part-time salaried position, weekly salary of $700 paid biweekly through payroll.


Spring Production Commitment: January 6, 2025 through May 18th, 2025 (12.5 weeks, Off Feb 14th-February 25th, March 2nd-March 12th)
- Auditions: January 9th, 4:00-7:00pm, January 10th 4:00-8:00pm, and January 11th, 1:15-6:00pm. The show is cast from the current members of the RYET. Not everyone who auditions has to be cast. There is a meeting on January 11th following the audition to make casting decisions.
- Rehearsals: Feb 5th-13th, Feb 26th-March 1st, March 13th-April 10th (Off Feb 14th-February 25th, March 2nd-March 12th)
- Basic rehearsal schedule: Wednesdays/Thursdays 3:30-7:00pm, Fridays 3:30-8:00pm, Saturdays 1:30-6:00pm.
- The Music Director does not always have to be at rehearsals when it’s the Director and/or Choreographer’s time to work.
- Tech Rehearsal Schedule: April 11th-April 26th (off April 14th-22nd); Saturday/Sunday 11:00-8:00pm; Wed-Fri 3:30-8:30pm
- Production Meetings, Prep Work and band rehearsal happen outside of rehearsal hours
- Performances: April 26th-May 18th, Fridays 7:00pm, Saturdays and Sundays (Except May 11th) 2:00pm & 4:00pm, Wednesday, May 7th 10:30am & 12:30pm


Founded in 1984, TADA! Youth Theater inspires young people from different backgrounds to be creative, learn, and think differently through high-quality musical theater productions, and educational programs. TADA!’s vision is that all young people grow up feeling successful, creative, confident, accepted, and accepting of themselves. Through the ability of people learning to express themselves well, we can break down barriers of racism and inequality and create positive, active citizens.


The Resident Youth Ensemble of TADA! (RYET), is a diverse, free, year-round pre-professional training and positive youth development program with youth ages 8-18 from all over New York City’s 5 boroughs and parts of New Jersey. RYET Members have a variety of experience and abilities. Applicants should have a passion for and love working with youth, have a lot of energy, and be a great communicator and collaborator with young performers and adults. Game Changers is a 55 minute musical with a cast of 17 RYET Members.
