SEEKING:
ADA BYRON LOVELACE (20s-30s, female-identifying, any race/ethnicity, disabled or nondisabled) Curious, funny, brilliant, aware of her brilliance, stories, aware of her story. Never met her famous father. Tries to be a “good girl” but just cannot help her curiosity and love of all things impossible. A woman of our time stuck in hers. Prefers conversation about her obsessions with math and music, and switches so quickly and deeply into these topics that she is endearingly odd. When she is delighting about her obsessions she takes on the energy of a bird. When she is not delighting about her obsessions, she maintains duty, but her energy wanes.
LADY ANABELLA BYRON (30s-50s, female-identifying, any race/ethnicity, disabled or nondisabled) Ada’s mother, harsh, strict, jealous? Yes. But realistic. She is a socialite who takes a pragmatic approach to maintaining her status as well as the status of her daughter. She has had a hard life largely due to Ada’s father. Projects his sins on her.
CHARLES BABBAGE (40s-60s, male-identifying, any race/ethnicity, disabled or nondisabled) Ada’s soulmate, friend, mentor. Lauded genius of London. Charismatic. A holder of famous salons, an inventor, a mathematical scholar, a dreamer who just cannot seem to make his dream into the metal they require to be real. Almost perfect for Ada. Almost.
LORD LOVELACE (20s-40s, male-identifying, any race/ethnicity, disabled or nondisabled) A gentleman who becomes Ada’s husband. He’d rather that he was more rich and more lordly but he’ll manage with his lot. A proud man. A wanting man. A serious man. Is not madly in love with Ada but she’ll do just fine. When engaging with Ada he is finding his way between caring and possessiveness. While he may not be up for the challenge, he makes an effort to understand her passions.
MARY SOMMERVILLE (40s-60s, female-identifying, any race/ethnicity, disabled or nondisabled) Charles’ friend and colleague and Ada’s mentor. There are no women as successful and respected in science and math as her. Pragmatic, sharply friendly, someone who will tell you when you’re wrong. She is brilliant and takes no shit.
BYRON (30s, male-identifying, any race/ethnicity, disabled or nondisabled) A charming man, darkly funny, unpredictable, emotional, brooding but self-aware. A poet.

SEEKING:
APPA (50s, male-identifying, Korean, disabled or nondisabled) A 59-year-old first-generation Korean-Canadian man, owner of Kim’s Convenience store. Speaks with a distinct Korean-Canadian accent that reflects his immigrant background. Traditional yet lovable patriarch who runs the family convenience store. Strong-willed with a sharp sense of humor, he can be stubborn but deeply cares for his family above all else. Excellent comedic timing and emotional range. Ability to authentically deliver lines with a Korean accent is a plus.
UMMA (50s, female-identifying, Korean, disabled or nondisabled) A 56-year-old first-generation Korean-Canadian woman, Appa’s wife. Speaks with a distinct Korean-Canadian accent that reflects her immigrant background. Warm-hearted and deeply religious, she serves as the emotional backbone of the family, often mediating conflicts between Appa and their children. Seamlessly balances humor with heartfelt sincerity, conveying wisdom through both comedic moments and emotional depth. Korean language skills preferred to authentically portray the character's cultural background.
JUNG (30s, male-identifying, Korean, disabled or nondisabled) A 32-year-old second-generation Korean-Canadian man. Appa and Umma’s son. Estranged son struggling to forge his own path while carrying the weight of his family legacy. Charismatic, charming, and outwardly confident, but harbors deep-seated unresolved family tensions beneath the surface. Has exceptional emotional range who navigates both comedic moments and dramatic confrontations with authenticity. Conveys a complex inner conflict between independence and the pull of family bonds.
JANET (30s, female-identifying, Korean, disabled or nondisabled) A 30-year-old second-generation Korean-Canadian woman. Appa and Umma’s daughter. Smart, independent, and artistically driven individual who frequently clashes with her father over cultural expectations and personal aspirations. While fiercely pursuing her own path, she remains deeply connected to her family roots. Strong comedic delivery balanced with naturalistic style that can authentically portray both generational conflict and underlying affection.
OTHERS (30s, male-identifying, African or African diaspora, disabled or nondisabled) Multiple roles. Strong comedic instincts, the ability to differentiate multiple characters seamlessly, and a keen sense of timing. The characters include:
Rich – A young African man.
Mr. Lee – A successful African real estate agent and a friend of Appa.
Mike – An African man with a strong Jamaican accent.
Alex – A 32-year-old African police officer and a childhood friend of Jung.
