The O’Neill is currently seeking enthusiastic emerging professionals across multiple departments for the 2025 Summer Season. Summer Staff make a season of developing new plays, musicals, cabaret acts, and puppet theater possible. Get intensive experience, full integration with O'Neill professional staff, and participate in all the activities of an O’Neill Summer.

The Eugene O’Neill Theater Center is the country’s preeminent organization dedicated to the development of new works and new voices for the stage. The O’Neill’s 11-acre seaside campus includes a collection of renovated 19th-century mansions, farmhouses and barns overlooking the Long Island Sound. The historic grounds include four performance venues, two libraries, administrative offices and residences for staff, faculty, students and artists

From its campus in Waterford, Connecticut, the O’Neill has been home to more than 1,000 new works for the stage and thousands more emerging artists. Music Assistant

Reports to: Score Coordinator, Literary Manager
Department: Literary
Compensation: $375/week stipend, housing, meals
Dates: Late July

Job Description
Music Assistants will provide direct support to the developmental workshop of a new musical during the National Music Theater Conference. Music Assistants will work closely with top-tier composers and music directors to track, implement, and distribute all score and lyric changes to the company and creative team. Candidates must be highly proficient in Finale and/or Sibelius and have compositional piano skills. Responsibilities include:

-Attend all workshop rehearsals (typically Tuesdays - Sundays 10am - 6pm but subject to change at the discretion of the Music Director).
-Work closely with the Composer and Music Director to track, implement, communicate score changes, and assist them as needed.
-Print and distribute score updates, lyric changes, band charts, and sheet music to the company.
-Work closely with the Script Assistant to track and communicate lyric changes to the company and ensure book/score continuity
-Create a score revision distribution spreadsheet in collaboration with the Score Coordinator and Script Assistant prior to the workshop.
-Work closely with the Script Assistant before the workshop to identify book/score discrepancies; communicating those discrepancies to the Composer; updating the score as needed before rehearsals begin.
-Attend the public performances

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate has a passion for musical theater and extensive experience as Music Assistant on new works in development. Must be highly proficient in Finale and Sibelius and have compositional piano skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and meticulous attention to detail required.
