DESCRIPTION

Overview: Krymov Lab NYC's newest show, Metamorphoses, is searching for a Technical Director. The TD will oversee all technical elements in the production, collaborating closely with the Production Manager, General Manager, and Designers to ensure that the artistic vision is realized safely and effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee and coordinate the execution of all technical elements of production, ensuring they align with the artistic vision
Manage construction and refurbishment of the set elements as needed before, during, and after the run, ensuring it meets artistic and safety standards.
Develop and oversee technical drawings, collaborating closely with the designer to create the best possible solutions for the production’s needs.
Lead or supervise the building process, ensuring all technical aspects are properly integrated into the final design.
Address any technical challenges that arise during production, implementing creative solutions to ensure smooth performances.
Ensure all technical elements are properly maintained and operational, conducting regular checks and repairs as needed.

Qualifications:

Proven experience in theatrical production, with a strong background in technical theatre.
Proficiency in carpentry, rigging and knowledge of safety protocols.
Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments.
Flexibility to adapt to evolving design elements throughout the rehearsal process, maintaining contact with designers as needed.

Compensation: $4,000, negotiable depending on experience.

Schedule:

February 4th - March 2nd: Four weeks of rehearsal (attendance not required, but communication is encouraged)
March 3rd: Load-in
March 7th: Opening
March 23rd: Closing and load-out

Notes: This production will involve significant use of cardboard as a main set material and will also require the incorporation of a specialized liquid distribution system. The Technical Director will need to collaborate closely with the design and technical teams to ensure the effective implementation and operation of this system, which will be integral to certain elements of the production. Designers may evolve their concepts throughout the rehearsal process, so adaptability and open communication are essential.
