SEEKING VOLUNTEER ACTORS FOR THE FOLLOWING ROLES
Performers of all ethnicities, cultural, religious, and gender identities, as well as performers with disabilities, are strongly encouraged to audition for all roles. All roles are available.

MARIA RAINER – Female-identifying character, playing age 25-35. Excellent actor and singer, and a capable mover. Guitar skills are a huge plus. A spirited postulant at Nonnberg Abbey, she is warm, compassionate, adventurous, and unafraid to speak her mind. Originally called to a life of service, she finds a new calling first as the governess for Captain Von Trapp, and later as the mother of his seven children. This role will require choreographed onstage intimacy. VOCAL RANGE: Soprano, Ab3 – B5

CAPTAIN GEORG VON TRAPP – Male-identifying character, playing age 35-50. Excellent and commanding actor and singer, and a capable mover. Guitar skills are a huge plus. A distinguished, retired Naval Lieutenant Commander whose stern, regimented disposition represses a deep sadness over the loss of his wife. The Captain remains uncompromisingly loyal to his Austrian homeland as threats of Anschluss grow more serious. When Maria restores music to his household, the Captain reconnects with his children and falls unexpectedly in love. This role will require triggering staging, as well as choreographed onstage intimacy. VOCAL RANGE: Bass Baritone, Gb2 - D4

MOTHER ABBESS – Female-identifying character, playing age 40-65. Excellent actor, and a thrilling soprano. The leader and superior of Nonnberg Abbey, Mother Abbess exudes maternal intelligence. She sees the novices through the process of becoming a nun, guiding and inspiring them throughout their journeys. She is firm and authoritative, but also warm, wise, and compassionate. VOCAL RANGE: Soprano, B3 - Ab5

LIESL VON TRAPP – Female-identifying character. Seeking an actor over the age of 18 to play 16. Excellent actor, singer, and dancer. Liesl is at an awkward age between childhood and adulthood. Although she assumes a maternal role with her younger siblings, she is still naïve and in need of her own guidance. She is secretly seeing Rolf, a young delivery boy who is on the verge of being swept up in the approaching Anschluss. This role will require choreographed onstage intimacy. VOCAL RANGE: Soprano, B3 - Ab5

ROLF GRUBER – Male-identifying character. Seeking an actor over the age of 18 to play 17. Excellent actor, singer, and dancer. A charming, earnest and charismatic delivery boy, Rolf finds himself caught between his affection for Liesl and his newfound allegiance to the Anschulss. This role will require triggering language, costume pieces and staging, as well as choreographed onstage intimacy. VOCAL RANGE: Baritone, C3 - E4

MAX DETWEILER – Male-identifying character. Playing age 40-55. Excellent actor, strong singer, and a capable mover. Max is a charming impresario and friend of the Captain’s. Shrewd and savvy, he is a chameleon who is able to bend circumstances to his own benefit. He uses his considerable charm to ingratiate himself into his surroundings, with little regard for moral or social responsibility. This role will require triggering language and staging. VOCAL RANGE: Tenor, D3 - F4

ELSA SCHRADER – Female-identifying character. Playing age 30-45. Excellent actor, strong singer, and a capable mover. A beautiful, cosmopolitan woman, she has her eyes set firmly on the Captain. LOUISA VON TRAPP – Female-identifying character. Playing age 13. Strong actor and singer, and a capable mover. Louisa misses her mother very much, and has become quite skilled at playing tricks on her governesses. But with Maria, it seems she’s met her match. VOCAL RANGE: Mezzo Soprano C4 - G5

KURT VON TRAPP – Male-identifying character. Playing age 10. Strong actor and singer, and a capable mover. Kurt is sensitive and pretends not to be hurt by his father’s absence. Though he misses his mother, he greatly appreciates Maria. VOCAL RANGE: Countertenor C4 - G5
