Al Woods built the Eltinge 42nd Street Theatre in 1912 for the female impersonator Julian Eltinge. Clark Gable and Alice Brady starred here in the 1930s production of Love, Honor, and Betray. The Eltinge closed its doors in 1986. Renamed the Empire, the theatre was relocated in 1998, moved 200 feet away from its former location on 42nd Street, and incorporated into the AMC movie theatre.
