Casey Nicholaw has been named the winner of the 2023 Tony Award for Best Choreography at the 76th Annual Tony Awards, held at the United Palace in Washington Heights June 11.
With 13 Tony nominations and a previous win for Best Direction, Nicholaw takes home his first Tony win for Best Choreography. Nicholaw won Best Direction of a Musical for The Book of Mormon, for which he was also nominated for Best Choreography. His other Tony-nominated choreography includes Spamalot, The Drowsy Chaperone, Aladdin, and Mean Girls. As a director, Nicholaw received a 2023 Tony nomination for Some Like It Hot. His Broadway credits as a choreographer also include The Prom, Tuck Everlasting, Something Rotten!, Elf, and All About Me; 21 shows comprise Nicholaw's Broadway career to date.
Others in the Best Choreography category included Steven Hoggett for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street; Susan Stroman for New York, New York; and Jennifer Weber for KPOP and & Juliet.
