The immersive theatre company Darkfield's premiere production of Arcade at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival has been cancelled. The audio experience set in the dark using the nostalgic 8-bit aesthetic of 1980s video games was set to run from August 3-27. Another Darkfield production, Coma, will run in its place.

Coma invites audiences to experience a sleep-like state of reality as part of a mass experiment. Coma first premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2019, and won the Adelaide Fringe weekly award in 2020. Coma will return to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival August 2-27.

Performers included in the audio experience are Simon Kane, Serena Bobowski, Noa Bodner, and Christopher Brett Bailey. Rich Irvine serves as production manager and Sarah Readman serves as lighting consultant. Set realization is by George Tomlinson, with set builders Callum Mercer, Thomas Shannon, Joe Iredale, Simon Bishop, and Sam Thornber, and technicians Liam Rudd, Greg Jordon, Eren Celikdemir, Adam Wileman, Francis Botu, and Cat Ryall. For more information, visit here. Darkfield is also presenting two other productions at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year: Seance and Eulogy. A popular Fringe company, Darkfield is U.K. based and creates audio theatrical experiences in customized 40-foot shipping containers with the audiences experiencing the show via headphones. They presented their shows in New York City last at ArtsDistrict Brooklyn and the 2022 Tribeca Festival.
