Simon & Schuster will publish producer Jeffrey Seller's memoir, Theater Kid, May 6, 2025.
Seller is one of the most successful theatrical producers of his generation, having worked on some of the most influential musicals of the last 30 years, including RENT, Avenue Q, In The Heights, Hamilton, and more. Before his career hit the stratosphere, however, Seller struggled to come to terms with his adoption, his sexuality, and his dysfunctional household in a poor neighborhood just outside Detroit. Theater Kid highlights Seller's determination to leave behind his past and craft his future onstage at the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis.
Seller's shows have garnered 22 Tony awards, including four for Best Musical, and his Broadway productions and tours have grossed over $4.6 billion and reached more than 43 million attendees. Seller is the only producer to have mounted two Pulitzer Prize-winning musicals—Hamilton and Rent. With the latter, Seller pioneered the concept ticket lotteries, now in wide use across Broadway.
