54 Below will host a concert presentation of the new musical The Game Boy October 18 at 9:30 PM. The work features music and lyrics by Danny J Rooney and a book by Rooney and Sharone Sayegh.
Described as an "8-bit musical comedy," the work centers on Middle Eastern high school gamer Omari, who gets sucked into his favorite video game, where he suddenly has to face his real-world problems transformed into video game boss fights.
The cast will feature Tony nominee John-Andrew Morrison (A Strange Loop) as Boxer, Autumn Hurlbert (Something Rotten!) as The Princess, Jeigh Madjus (Here Lies Love) as Spakitu, Ahmad Maksoud (The Band's Visit) as Lu, Jamen Nanthakumar as Omari, and Sayegh (The Band's Visit) as Didi.
Steven Jamail is music directing, with Evan Zavada as associate music director. Jen Sandler is producing.
