I have to say I'm a firm believer in staycations. I just did one three weeks ago for a weekend. What I did: I ate a lot at Westville in Chelsea. I took a lot of walks. Bike-ridding along the river is amazing, bike-riding anywhere is amazing. Also I like to read a book on the High Line, which was maybe my favorite part of my staycation.
I've always loved all things spooky and NYC is chock full of supernatural fun! I would spend the afternoon on one of the many walking ghost tours going on down in the village and then I might grab some dinner at the historic and haunted White Horse Tavern on Hudson Street. After that, I'd probably finish up the evening at either the delightfully creepy Sleep No More or maybe even go on an actual ghost hunt with the Ghost Doctors of NYC. It's definitely a 'comfortable shoes' kinda day. But this would totally be my dream staycation.
Must see Curious Incident, which I saw and can endorse that as one of the great things I've seen on stage. Hamilton, but really do they need any more plugs from anyone? Everyone knows already to go and see Hamilton, so I would say go and see The King and I, which I haven't seen and really want to go and see super-bad. There's a place called Glaze on 56th. They have beef, chicken, salmon, brown rice, white rice, gyoza, all these things, but it's sort of done really informal casual style and it's cheap eats but it's really, really, really good.
My favorite 4th of July Staycation was spent in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. John and I found a deal on the Jetsetter website and spent the night at the super rad Whythe Hotel which has an amazing roof. It's also across the street from Brooklyn Bowl if it's a rainy day. (If it's a Thursday night Questlove DJs a "super soul bowl train" dance party that is amazing). If it’s Saturday you should grab a bite at Smorgasburg where you can either eat five different kinds of ice cream for lunch or pick a delicious artisanal food vendor and go to town. If it's any other day, go eat at Mogador
I would go to a birthday celebration for the Dalai Lama’s 80th birthday on July 9 and 10 at the Javits center. Then I would go to Fun Home on Broadway, The Flick at Barrow Street, and 10 out of 12 at SoHo Rep which has been extended until July 18. I would take my kids to the Brooklyn Bridge Park and splash in the the fountain installation, go to Jane’s Carousel, Shakespeare in the Park and ice cream at Van Leeuwen’s. Finally, an afternoon at the Cloisters, a free concert with George Clinton at Metrotech in Brooklyn, lunch at the Rubin Museum and a free night at the Brooklyn Museum to see Basquiat’s notebooks.

You like chicken? You like good cocktails? Go to this place called Seoul Chicken. It's probably the best chicken you've ever had. I go there a lot, on my Fridays. It's a great place to hang out. Also, just go to Central Park and walk around and get lost in there. The nature here is delightful.
It's going to open in a little while, so go and see Jonathan Groff in Hamilton and everybody else. I got to see if Off-Broadway and it was just the best thing. It's incredible and I'm adding to the list of everybody else who's going to say that but it really, really, truly is extraordinary. Don't miss it and bring your kids. Bring kids to it. I think it's really important for young people to see it.
