Immersive theatrical experience and nightclub revue La Cage is returning to Los Angeles, with performances set to begin October 5 at Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel's Cinegrill Theatre. The experience transports audiences back to the golden age of Hollywood supper clubs for a night of glitz and glamor. Performances include vocalists and dancers, all backed by a live band.
La Cage is inspired by famous LA night club La Cage Aux Folles, which was itself inspired by the 1973 French farce (also the source material for the 1983 Broadway musical and the 1996 film The Birdcage).
You won't see the story or songs of the musical or film here. Instead, this revue takes a cue from the LA club, launched in 1981 and world renowned for drag performances in opulent costumes. The upcoming performances are set to be hosted by original La Cage revue cast member and drag sensation Tommi Rose. Each performance will also feature a special celebrity guest, with Broadway favorite Cheyenne Jackson and American Idol star and drag performer Ada Vox among those scheduled to appear. Further casting and special guests are to be announced. Performances will be offered at 7 and 10 PM on Fridays weekly.
"La Cage proudly defies conventions and offers a complete sensory experience," say co-creators Michael Diefenbach and Eric Tremble. "It’s flamboyantly offensive across the board, delivering a risqué take-no-prisoners kind of show, brassy humor, and forget-about-it hilarity. Our goal is to create a safe and inclusive space where everyone can come as they aren't. It’s everything you wanted and nothing you’d expect."
Attendees can also choose to dine at the Cinegrill Theatre with a special supper club-inspired menu. Tickets are available at WelcomeToLaCage.com.
