The Verdict Reviews: What Are Critics Saying About the World Premiere of Theresa Rebeck's Mad House in London's West End?

The reviews are in! The star-studded world premiere of Theresa Rebeck's dark comedy Mad House opened June 26 at the Ambassadors Theatre in London's West End for a run set to play though September 4. 

The show is led by stage and screen favorites David Harbour—last seen in Broadway's Glengarry Glen Ross, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, and The Coast of Utopia, and on screen as Jim Hopper in Netflix's Stranger Things—and Bill Pullman, who returns to the West End following his previous run in The Old Vic's All My Sons. Set in rural Pennsylvania, the work follows Michael (Harbour) as he returns to his childhood home to care for his his dying father, Daniel (Pullman). His siblings, Nedward and Pam, arrive to figure out how much money their father has left.

Also cast in Mad House is Stephen Wight as Nedward, Sinead Matthews as Pam, Charlie Oscar as Skylar, Akiya Henry as Lillian, and Hanako Footman as Devon. The West End production will feature a captioned performance July 20 and an audio-described performance July 27.

The West End production reunites Rebeck with director Moritz von Stuelpnagel following their collaborations on Bernhardt/Hamlet and Seared. The work features set design by Frankie Bradshaw, costume design by Tilly Grimes, lighting design by Prema Mehta, sound design by Beth Duke for Autograph Sound, and composition by Isobel Waller-Bridge. Mad House is produced by Ambassador Theatre Group Productions and Gavin Kalin Productions.
