The new London production of Henrik Ibsen’s Rosmersholm, adapted by Duncan Macmillan (People, Places and Things, 1984), opened at the Duke of York's Theatre in the West End May 2. With direction by Ian Rickson (Jerusalem, The Birthday Party, Translations), the adaptation stars Agent Carter's Hayley Atwell and Tom Burke (Strike).
In Rosmersholm, an election is looming. A country is on the brink. A rabid press bays for blood. At the center of the storm is Rosmersholm, the grand house of an influential dynasty. This is where the future will be decided by John Rosmer—a man torn between the idealized hope of the future and the ghosts of his past.
