Old Vic Theatre's much-postponed production of Amy Herzog's 4000 Miles, originally planned to begin performances April 6, 2020, and ultimately postponed to summer 2022, has now been fully canceled, according to an email sent by the theatre to ticket holders.

"Following its postponement due to the pandemic, and despite an enormous amount of effort from all involved, we have now sadly and reluctantly concluded that we are unable to reschedule the show at a time possible for everyone involved," the notice reads. "It's been a long journey to get to this point and despite two years of trying hard to make it work, it has proved impossible. We're sorry not to have better news, and we want to thank you for your continued patience and understanding."

The production was to be led by film star Timothée Chalamet (in what would have been his London stage debut) and three-time Olivier Award winner Eileen Atkins, along with Philippine Velge and Siu-See Hung and understudies Maya Britto, Nesba Crenshaw, Dan Krikler, and Robyn Sinclair. Tony winner Matthew Warchus was to direct.

The work, a 2013 Pulitzer Prize finalist and Best New American Play Obie winner, follows 21-year-old Leo and his grandma, 91-year-old Vera. When Leo shows up on Vera’s doorstep late one night, the pair explore grief and family. The play had its world premiere Off-Broadway in 2011, later playing another Off-Broadway run via Lincoln Center Theater at the Mitzi Newhouse.

The Old Vic, which was severely financially impacted by the pandemic along with most theatre companies, is asking ticket holders to consider donating the cost of their ticket back to the theatre. Tickets have been automatically converted into vouchers for future ticket sales with the venue with options to convert the voucher into a donation or request a refund.
