Opening Night Video: The Avett Brothers Perform at the Swept Away Opening Night on Broadway

The new musical starring John Gallagher Jr. opened November 19 at the Longacre Theatre.

Anchors aweigh! Swept Away celebrated its opening night on Broadway November 19 at the Longacre Theatre and it seemed to be smooth sailing. After the performance, the show's composers, the Avett Brothers, came on the stage to sing a few of their songs. See their performance in the video above. And see photos from the opening night celebration in the gallery below.

Swept Away features songs from the Avett Brothers' folk catalogue, and has a book by John Logan. It is directed by Michael Mayer. Leading the cast are Tony winner John Gallagher, Jr. as Mate, Stark Sands as Big Brother, Adrian Blake Enscoe as Little Brother, and Wayne Duvall as Captain.

Swept Away follows four survivors of an 1888 shipwreck off the coast of New Bedford, Massachusetts. As they struggle to stay alive, they must question whether or not they can live with the consequences of their actions, and discover how tragedy can lead to forgiveness. Read critics' reviews here.
