International News Broadway-Bound Hadestown Arrives in London November 2 Eva Noblezada, Reeve Carney, Patrick Page, and Amber Gray star in the Anaïs Mitchell musical that makes its London premiere at the National Theatre.

The National Theatre engagement of Hadestown, Anaïs Mitchell’s folk opera telling of the ancient, underworld-set tale of Persephone, begins performances November 2 in London. The musical premiered Off-Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop in 2016, and is expected to transfer to Broadway following its London debut.

Rachel Chavkin, a Tony nominee for The Great Comet, directs the musical that runs through January 26, 2019.

Reprising their performances from the musical’s previous engagements are Patrick Page (Saint Joan) as Hades, Amber Gray (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812) as Persephone, and Reeve Carney (Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark) as Orpheus. Gray and Page originated their roles in the 2016 Off-Broadway premiere at New York Theatre Workshop and continued with the show at the Citadel Theatre in Canada in 2017, where they were joined by Carney.

New to the company for the London bow are Tony nominees Eva Noblezada (Miss Saigon) and André De Shields (The Full Monty) as Eurydice and Hermes, respectively, with Rosie Fletcher (Wicked), Carly Mercedes Dyer (Dreamgirls), and Gloria Onitiri (Brighton Rock) as the Fates. Rounding out the company are Sharif Afifi, Beth Hinton-Lever, Seyi Omooba, Aiesha Pease, Joseph Prouse, Jordan Shaw, and Shaq Taylor.

The production features choreography by David Neumann, musical direction by Liam Robinson, orchestrations by Michael Chorney and Todd Sickafoose, sets by Rachel Hauck, costumes by Michael Krass, lighting design by Bradley King, and sound design by Nevin Steinberg and Jessica Paz.
