Broadway Green Alliance and New York City-based company Wearable Collections have partnered to sponsor a textile drive September 14, rain or shine. The collection event will be held in Times Square's Duffy Square on 46th Street between 7th Avenue and Broadway 11 AM-2 PM.
Open to all, the drive will accept used and clean clothing, shoes, curtains, hats, linens, towels, handbags, and belts as part of its collaborative effort to improve the theatre industry's sustainable practices and reduce landfill waste. To date, the Broadway Green Alliance's drives have diverted 17,000 pounds of textiles.
Items that will not be accepted include pillows, comforters, rugs, carpets, large luggage items, other household goods, fabric, and fabric scraps.
Broadway Green Alliance, which seeks to create a more sustainable theatre industry and community through eco-friendly practices, began in 2008 as an ad hoc committee of The Broadway League and has since become a fiscal program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
Wearable Collections focuses on reducing textiles in the waste stream by repurposing or recycling collected items while generating funds for charities. InCord serves as the sponsor for this year's fall drive.
