Maryland's Olney Theatre Center has announced its 2023-2024 season, including Edinburgh Fringe and Off-Broadway favorite Islander. Kicking off August 30, four plays and four musicals comprise the regional theatre's line-up for its 85th season.
Set to play the Olney April 11-28, 2024, Islander tells the story of a girl who dreams of a life past the shores of her little island. When a mysterious stranger washes up with the tide, she sets off on a new journey. Conceived and directed by Amy Draper, the musical features a book by Stewart Melton with music and lyrics by Finn Anderson. The Scottish folk-inspired score features looping technology for a sound mix created live during the performance. It transferred to Off-Broadway's Playhouse 46 at St. Luke's last summer after a 2019 Best New Musical–winning debut at Edinburgh Fringe.
Ink will be directed by Jason Loewith August 30-September 24. It will be co-produced with and performed at Round House Theatre in Bethesda. Following will be Prince Gomolvilas' The Brothers Paranormal directed by Hallie Gordon and Aria Velz (September 27-October 29), and Fiddler on the Roof directed by Peter Flynn (November 8-December 31) to finish out 2023.
