Tony nominee Melissa Errico releases her new studio album, Out of The Dark: The Film Noir Project, February 18 on the Ghostlight Records label. The song cycle, which tells a story of hope, despair, and hope renewed, features songs from noir classics like Laura and The Bad and The Beautiful as well as French chansons of the 1950s and '60s.
Watch one of the recording's tracks come to life in the video above, Errico's sultry take on "Angel Eyes" with music by Matt Dennis and lyrics by Earl Brent. Directed by filmmaker Matthew Edginton and shot at the famed NYC jazz club Birdland and in the surrounding Times Square area, the video also features Tedd Firth at the piano, Rufus Collins as the bartender, and Ed Bacher as the barfly.
Out of The Dark also boasts four new songs composed by Michel Legrand, David Shire, and Peter Foley, with lyrics by Errico's frequent collaborator Adam Gopnik, all arranged by musical director and pianist Firth. Also included in the 17-song collection: Cy Coleman and David Zippel’s “With Every Breath I Take,” Howard Dietz and Arthur Schwartz’s “Haunted Heart,” Harold Arlen and George Gershwin’s “The Man That Got Away,” Lionel Newman’s “Again,” and Harry Warren and Leo Robin’s “Checkin’ My Heart.”
