Crystal Skillman's monologue play Open has announced a return to Off-Broadway's The Tank where it made its world premiere in 2019. Open takes the stage for one-night-only in a free preview performance November 14 at 4 PM to kick off a tour with OnStage! Festival.
Presented by The Tank in partnership with The Flying Carpet Theatre Company, the production features the original direction of Jessi D. Hill, who directed the world premiere, with Lily Ali-Oshatz starring. After The Tank, Open will make four stops in Italy, including Cagliari (Lucido Festival), Teatro del Lidoo in Ostia, Pescara at Florian Espace, and Festival Mauro Rostagno.
Ali-Oshatz plays The Magician, a woman who presents illusions to entertain the audience while attempting the most impossible feat of all—saving the woman she loves with a magic trick.
The performance will feature lighting and scenic design by Sarah Johnston (Medea), sound design by Emma Wilk (Riddle of the Trilobites), and costume design by Madeline Wall (Kodachrome). The stage manager is Sydney Golden (Griswolds’ Broadway Vacation) and production management is by Nick Cotz of AFO Theater Company.
Open is co-produced by the #HealMeToo Festival, with funding from ART/NY and is made possible by a grant from USArtists International (Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation), the Dramatists Guild Foundation, with permission from Dramatists Play Service.
