Off-Broadway News Irish Repertory Kicks Off Inaugural New Works Summer Festival June 20

Showcasing LGBTQ+ artists, the festival presents five readings over five days.

Off-Broadway's Irish Repertory Theatre presents its inaugural New Works Summer Festival beginning June 20. As part of its New Play Development Program, the new festival spotlights the work of LGBTQ+ artists in a series of free new play readings through June 24.

Readings include Ciara Elizabeth Smyth's Irishtown (June 20), John King's ERIS (June 21), Karen Cogan's Drip Feed (June 22), May Treuhaft-Ali's Motherland (June 23), and Phillip McMahon's Once Before I Go (June 24). Nicola Murphy Dubey directs the first three with Colm Summers directing the final two. Readings are presented at 7 PM. in the W. Scott McLucas Theatre.

Across the five readings, the casts will include Alana Raquel Bowers (Chicken & Biscuits), Una Clancy (The O’Casey Cycle), Katie Fabel (Hangmen), Johnny Hopkins (Only Murders in the Building), Joseph Jones (Purgatory After Yeats), Katherine Laheen (WeCrashed), Owen Laheen (Belfast Girls), Maribel Martinez (Bees & Honey), Doireann Mac Mahon (Ellis Island), Kieran Mulcare (Waco: The Aftermath), Jenn Murray (A Girl is a Half-formed Thing), b Norwood (Bodies They Ritual), Ciarán O’Reilly (Juno and the Paycock), Roxanna Hope Radja (Wish You Were Here), Morgan Sullivan (Dirty) and Stephen Quinn (Bark of Millions).

Prior to the last reading June 24, the theatre will also host a pre-reading happy hour at 5:30 PM.

The New Play Development Program at Irish Repertory Theatre was developed to expand the Irish theatre canon by supporting Irish and Irish-American voices of all races, genders, abilities, and orientations. Along with readings, workshops, and this summer's inaugural festival, the program also includes the Transatlantic Commissions Program
