Rattlestick Theater will host playwrights May Treuhaft-Ali and Minghao Tu in its Van Lier New Voices Fellows program, a fellowship the company recently took over from the now shuttered Lark Play Development Center.
The fellowship annually supports two under-30 playwrights of color by providing a $35,000
living stipend, a $5,000 artistic fund, mentorship with a chosen mentor playwright, workshops and
readings of new work, and participation in Rattlestick's artistic network.
Treuhaft-Ali is a member of Ars Nova's Play Group and
the Middle Eastern American Writers Lab, and an alumna of Clubbed Thumb’s Early-Career Writers’
Group and The Playwrights Realm Writing Fellowship. She currently serves as the literary and community engagement assistant at Playwrights Horzions. Her play ABCD will be produced at Barrington Stage
Company in July 2022.
Tu hails from Wuhan, China and is currently a Jerome Fellow at the Playwrights’
Center. He has been a resident playwright of Pipeline Theatre Company's PlayLab, and a Travis Bogard Artist-in-Residence at the Eugene O'Neill Foundation.
The Van Lier New
Voices Fellowship is funded by New York Community Trust and the Jerome Foundation, and will be overseen by Rattlestick Artistic Director Daniella Topol and new Associate Artistic Director Danilo Gambini.
