Rattlestick Theater has announced the lineup for its Global Forms Theater Festival, curated by managing director Yue Liu. The 12-day festival, running June 1-12, will feature five kinds of programming, showcasing and supporting works by immigrant theatre artists who live in the United States.
Three workshops will be presented, including queer fairytale All the Lonely Women by Inés Braun and Leigh Flayton; the new musical exploring queer identity SKIN by Yuriko Shibata and Andrew Strano; absurdist play The Aliens Make Thanksgiving Dinner (or the Next Great American Play) by James Clements, Maamoun Tobbo, and Derya Celikkol; as well as a reading of Chava the Giant and the Oldest Bird by Ran Xia.
"The Global Forms Theater Festival highlights our shared humanity and compassion," said Liu in a statement. "As an immigrant producer who has experienced various types of discrimination in my life, I deeply understand the pains and struggles that immigrant artists are carrying. I feel a strong sense of responsibility to produce this festival and provide a safe environment for immigrant artists to tell their stories confidently, proudly, and authentically.”
The festival will also feature discussions with international theatre companies, immigrant artist-led workshops, cross-cultural conversations, and talks by artists who will share insights into their home countries.
