Off-Broadway's Soho Rep has announced its 2022-2023 season, which will include Kate Tarker's Montag, Shayok Misha Chowdhury's Public Obscenities, and Jillian Walker's The Whitney Album.
Tarker's Montag opens the season October 12–November 13. To be directed by Dustin Wills, the comedic thriller explores female friendship with its story of best friends Faith and Novella, who are practicing unusual combat skills while hiding in a small German town near an American military base. The production will feature original music by composer Daniel Schlosberg.
Following February 15–March 26, 2023, Chowdhury's bilingual family drama Public Obscenities, performed in Bangla and English, will take the stage. Co-commissioned and produced with the NAATCO National Partnership Project, Chowdhury will direct his play about a queer studies PhD student Choton who returns to his family home in Kolkata with his Black American boyfriend Raheem. There, Choton makes a discovery and finds the limits of language in this play about what it means to live in translation.
Lastly, in The Whitney Album Walker will explore her relationship to the work, life, and death of Whitney Houston, and how the American imagination perceives the artist in all of her facets. Jenny Koons will direct the work from the "imaginary historian" May 24–July 2, 2023.
Additionally, Soho Rep’s production of Hansol Jung’s Wolf Play will play at MCC beginning in January 2023. The Soho Rep production, in collaboration with Ma-Yi Theater company, was directed by Dustin Wills and explores queer parenting, international adoption, and the meaning of family.
Soho Rep will continue to foster new artists and artistic communities through its Writer Director Lab, co-chaired by playwrights William Burke and Jackie Sibblies Drury, and the addition of activist-stylist and designer Hahnji Jang and Trans theatre designer and theatre maker Kate McGee as salaried employees through Project Number One.

Just as we work to provide a platform for transformation in the creative lives of the artists we serve, we’re similarly changed by our time with these visionaries. I’m excited to see the ways in which these productions and having Kate McGee and Hahnji Jang on staff will change our theatre.”
