The Lucky Star officially opens May 5 as part of 59E59's Inaugural VOLT Festival, which presents three New York City-premiering plays by Karen Hartman. The Off-Broadway theatre will subsequently open New Golden Age May 11, and Goldie, Max & Milk May 8.
Previews began April 26 in Theater A for The Lucky Star, the previously announced Directors Company's production, which will run through June 12. The true-story drama about a family torn apart by war features Skye Alyssa Friedman, Danny Gavigan, Nina Hellman, Eva Kaminsky, Alexa Shae Niziak, Mike Shapiro, Alexandra Silber, Steven Skybell, Sky Smith, and Dale Soules. Eliza Foss, Rachel Alana Handler, and Noah Zachary serve as understudies. Hartman adapted Richard Hollander's book Every Day Lasts a Year: A Jewish Family's Correspondence from Poland.
Director Noah Himmelstein leads a creative team that includes Daniel Ettinger for scenic design, David Burdick for costume design, Cory Pattak for lighting design, Elisheba Ittoop for sound design, and Caite Hevner for projection design. Douglas Denoff serves as producer.
Making its world premiere, New Golden Age stars Carmen Castillo, Ricardy Fabre, Doug Harris, Mahira Kakkar, and Claire Siebers. The play about two sisters fighting for human connection in a near-future tech dystopia has a run set through June 9 in Theater B. Presented by 59E59's Resident Off-Broadway Theater Company Primary Stages, Jade King Carroll directs the production.
New Golden Age features scenic design by Lee Savage, costume design by Jennifer Caprio, wig and makeup design by Jared Janas, lighting design by Anshuman Bhatia, and sound design by Fan Zhang. Also serving on the creative team will be Carrie Mossman as props coordinator, Denise Cardarelli as production stage manager, and Olivia Tymon as assistant stage manager.
In Theater C, Goldie, Max & Milk will run through June 4. Featuring Blair Baker, Lauren Molina, Timiki Salinas, Shayna Nicole Small, and Beatrice Ethel Tulchin, the comedy about single lesbian and new mom Max and her Orthodox Jewish lactation consultant explores themes of motherhood and family.
Goldie, Max & Milk includes scenic design by Junghyun Georgia Lee, costume design by Lee & Ilana Breitman, lighting design by Kate McGee, sound design by Sun Hee Kil, and props design by Nick Campano. Caroline Ragland serves as production stage manager with Julie Gottfried as assistant stage manager. MBL Productions with Mary J. Davis will produce Goldie, Max and Milk.
