Matthew Broderick and Laura Benanti

Love Letters starring Tony winners Matthew Broderick and Laura Benanti begins its extended run at Irish Repertory Theatre May 30. The work will only have 12 performances, through June 9 on the Francis J. Greenburger Mainstage.

The A.R. Gurney play follows Andrew and Melissa, two friends who exchanges letters over the course of their lives from childhood birthday parties to college to marriage and careers. Through its presentation of two character studies, the work explores how revealing what is written—and what isn't—can be.

Ciarán O’Reilly (Endgame) directs the two-hander drama, which was a 1988 Pulitzer Prize finalist.

The run is one of two announced as part of Irish Rep's The Letter Series which kicked off with Dear Liar starring Tony nominee Melissa Errico and David Staller. Inspired by correspondence of fact and fiction that’s stood the test of time, The Letters Series explores the thrill of witnessing great relationships unfold and sometimes shape our history in an age of instant communication.
