Off-Broadway News The Wire's Andre Royo to Star in Drinking in America Off-Broadway

Audible Theater presents the work by Pulitzer Prize finalist Eric Bogosian.

Andre Royo and Eric Bogosian

Pulitzer Prize finalist Eric Bogosian's Drinking in America will play Off-Broadway at Audible's Minetta Lane Theatre beginning March 10. The four-week limited engagement will open March 19.

Starring in the work will be Andre Royo (The WireThe 24 Hour Plays) under the direction of Mark Armstrong (The 24 Hour Plays). Royo will play over a dozen characters, all intoxicated, in a comic exploration of the modern American male psyche. First performed in 1986, the work now coincides with contemporary conversations about toxic masculinity and male fragility.

Featured on the creative team will be scenic designer Kristen Robinson, costume designer Sarita Fellows, lighting designer Jeff Croiter, sound designer John Gromada, dialect and vocal coach Kate Wilson, and production stage manager Bess Marie Glorioso. Technical supervision is by Hudson Theatrical Associates with general management by Baseline Theatrical’s Andy Jones and Jonathan Whitton.

Drinking in America is produced in association with Andrew D. Hamingson and William Russo of ADH Theatricals. The production marks Bogosian's first return to the theatre since his Obie-winning play Pounding Nails in the Floor in 1994; it will be recorded and released at a future date on Audible as an audio play for Audible listeners everywhere.

Playwright-director Erica Schmidt's Lucy currently plays at the Off-Broadway theatre, starring Brooke Bloom and Lynn Collins.
