Broadway Advocacy Coalition's second annual Broadway VS celebrates stage veterans Norm Lewis and Joshua Henry. The event live streams from New World Stages June 20 at 7:30 PM.
The evening, hosted by Amber Iman, features a conversation between the two Tony nominees and songs from their stage careers, including music from Once on This Island, Carousel, and The Little Mermaid.
Lewis' stage credits include Chicken and Biscuits, The Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, Once on This Island, and the title character in the Off-Broadway production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street at the Barrow Street Theatre. In 2014, he made history as the first African American Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway.
The actor recently starred in Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods and FX's Pose. Other screen credits include Women of The Movement (also starring Adrienne Warren), Apple TV's animated series Central Park, and NBC's Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert!, alongside John Legend, Tony nominee Sara Bareilles, and Alice Cooper.
Henry is currently in Apple TV's See and previous starred in Lin-Manuel Miranda's Netflix adaptation of Tick, Tick...BOOM!. His stage credits include Violet, Carousel,Waitress, Off-Broadway's The Wrong Man at MCC Theatre,Hamilton in Los Angeles, and he will soon be seen in the Broadway transfer of New York City Center's Into the Woods.
Presented by Broadway Podcast Network, the season will feature works by Harriet Beecher Stowe, W.E.B Du Bois, Joyce Carol Oates, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and more.
The three-time Tony nominee had representation on the mind while playing the narcissistic baddie in ABC's upcoming Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration.
Created with students at Granite Bay High School, the musical has been licensed around the world as schools seek to amplify the academic pressures facing today’s adolescents.
The Broadway alum will take on the role in an upcoming sequel to The Descendants after starring in the 1997 TV movie of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical.
